Tour Fund raising
Methven Castle - 28th March 2010Patrons and supporters of Perth Youth Orchestra are alerted to a private function taking place at Methven Castle on Sunday 28th March, starting at 3pm. Part of the programme will be given by Perth Youth Orchestra members: Amy Forbes (clarinet), Laurence Heyes (violin), Ruth Howie (flute) Hannah Holmes (mezzo soprano), Libby Southgate ('cello), Euan Penny and Alice Radley (violin duet), Jill Sweeney (flute), Amy Smart ('cello) and Fiona Scott (violin). 50% of the proceeds will go to the orchestra's tour fund. While there are no 'tickets', a generous minimum donation is repectfully requested, and it is possible to reserve seats by contacting David Murdoch at Methven Castle (01738 840016). Space is limited so please book today. Fund raising programme - March 2010Last weekend's PYO Winter ceilidh was a great success - both bringing people together - and by fund raising. Around £600 profit was made and is a welcome boost to our tour funds. Sales of the PYO pottery coasters and souvenir canvas bags need to be promoted a little further to turn these projects into money earners - and a recent Pampered Chef Party raised over £300. Thanks to all who have supported these events. Our next BIG sponsored event in on Saturday 27th March - at Morrison's Supermarket, Perth. Our BAG PACK on that day has the potential to raise between £600 and £1500 - but its success relies on your support. The more adults and young people we have staffing the tills - the more money we make. Please consider giving up a little of your time that day - to help our tour fund. (See the attached flyer for more details). Call Frances Turnbull (01738 634947) to offer your support. We are also looking for contributions for a recipe book (on a musical theme). We would welcome offers from parents interested in staging a Coffee Morning or Candle Party in their area - especially perhaps in Kinross, Blairgowrie, Auchterarder, Aberfeldy or Crieff - from where support for Perth based events might be uneconomic. Watch out for details in the press of a concert at Methven Castle on Sunday 28th March. The organisers have generously offered half the proceeding to the PYO Tour Fund - and our most talented musicians have been invited to take part. Support is growing for our president's sponsored cycle to Aschaffenburg. Watch out for sponsor forms for that too! Our Annual Concert is on 11th April, 7.30pm in Perth Concert Hall. We are delighted to announced that our two soloists for this year will be Rachel Steele (Elgar's Cello Concert) and Andrew Forbes (Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue). We will also launch our Grand Raffle on the same evening - and it will be drawn in the Autumn. See the result of our fund raising successes with our online totaliser!!!! Aschaffenburg - July 2010Perth Youth Orchestra has enjoyed a series of successful concert tours in Europe over the past twenty five years. Previous tours have taken the orchestra to performances in Spain, France, Germany and the Netherlands. Our Estonian tour in 2004 brought great acclaim, both abroad and at home, in a year which culminated in a performance for HM the Queen. Our most recent tour, to Poland in 2007, witnessed some of the largest audiences we have ever played for. That is what makes such events so worthwhile for our young players. We are now planning to visit Perth's twin city in Germany, Aschaffenburg. It is more than 25 years since our last visit to that city and, in Perth's 800th anniversary year, we are assured of a great welcome. It is necessary to start planning now in order that we can successfully coordinate transport, accommodation and concert arrangements for up to 72 players, together with their tutors and conductor. The Perth Youth Orchestra committee feels confident that it can support plans for 'Tour Germany 2010'. The confirmed tour dates are from Thursday 8th - Wednesday 14th July 2010, and are subject to confirmation. Please check them against your family holidays, school trips and other potential clashes. The tour is open to all our existing members as well as those who intend to audition for a place in the orchestra for next year. Those who leave PYO this year may consider re-joining the orchestra for the tour, but it should be noted that attendance at the Easter Music Camp 2010 will be an essential part of preparations for Germany. Your prompt response to this invitation will help us judge the balance of instrumentalists who plan to join the tour. If there are any vacancies left in a particular section they can be made up with players from other groups. The real cost of this tour is calculated to be over £1100 per person. This includes air fares, coaches, accommodation, meals, travel insurance and excursions as well as the overheads we have for the transport of instruments, concert venues, printing and other administrative costs. With your commitment to supporting our fund raising events, and with the help of our major patrons, we calculate that we can reduce this cost to £800 per player. As in previous years, a discount of 50% will be given for second and subsequent family members in the orchestra. Obviously, the more funds we raise the more we can enhance the tour for the orchestra. All places have now been allocated - but there may be an opportunity for someone who decides to join us - even as late as the Annual Concert. We may need to pass on a higher cost for those who book after 28th October 2009.
